Evangelism
What is evangelism?
Evangelism is at the heart of our life as the Methodist Church Zimbabwe Fellowship UK (MCZF UK). It is how we share the hope we have received in Christ—through word, worship, service and everyday witness.
The word evangelism comes from a term meaning “bearer of good news”. At its heart, evangelism recognises that we cannot share good news unless we have first received it ourselves. We can only give what we have; we cannot give what we do not have.
Evangelism as initiation
William J. Abraham defines evangelism as:
“That set of intentional activities which is governed by the goal of initiating people into the Kingdom of God for the first time.”
This reminds us that evangelism is both intentional and relational, centred on helping people begin a living faith in Jesus Christ.
Our understanding of evangelism
As MCZF UK, our understanding of evangelism is captured in this simple statement:
The whole Church, taking the whole Gospel, to the whole world.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19–20).
We are committed to outward-looking evangelism-going out rather than waiting in. Our approach is shaped by prayer, compassion and a desire to respond faithfully to God’s call. Evangelism is not simply a programme to increase membership or income; it is an act of obedience.
Our goal:
- To engage our wider communities across the UK and, through that engagement, to support people on a journey towards committed discipleship.
Our aims
We aim to:
- Create a genuine, vibrant worship environment that encourages members, supports those who are struggling, and welcomes newcomers.
- Build warm and supportive spaces through class meetings, home groups and prayer groups (Acts 2:41–47).
- Strengthen welcoming leadership that opens doors and embraces all (2 Chronicles 29:3–5).
- Continue in prayer for focused and effective structures that are able to “hold the catch” (Matthew 4:21).
